Once the industrial heart of Sheffield, now one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the country. Here's what's around, with Bar Kelham right in the middle of it on Green Lane.
Kelham Island is one of Sheffield's oldest industrial districts. The "island" itself is man-made, created over 900 years ago when a channel, the goit, was dug from the River Don to power a corn mill. Through the 18th and 19th centuries the area became packed with workshops, forges and the "little mesters" who made Sheffield's name in steel and cutlery.
Today those same brick works and foundries have been reborn as flats, food halls, breweries and bars, and Kelham Island has been named one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the UK by the likes of TimeOut and The Sunday Times. Bar Kelham sits right in the thick of it, our metal bar forged on the island by one of its own craftsmen.
